In case you don’t know, the WAEC SSCE examination is not only for Nigerians. It is written in all the English-speaking countries of West Africa. This is the most valuable, preferable, and also the most common senior school certificate in this region of West Africa.

From these two exams, let me start by explaining to you the features of each. From the features, you can even conclude on your own which one to go for.

Everything you need to know about the NECO SSCE exam.

In my previous post, I explained many things about the NECO SSCE Examination, including the history, qualifications, and requirements for this exam.

You can read the full details here.

The NECO examination board is an organization formed by Nigeria’s ministry of education to organize senior school certificate examinations at the national level.

As we all know, the WAEC examination is being conducted at an international level (it comprises five countries), while the NECO examination is only for Nigerians.

People writing NECO SSCE examinations receive adequate treatment just like those writing WAEC main exams as this is a fresh exam. Also, the rate of pass mark is quite interesting as their marking scheme is the same as that of WAEC.

Students don’t normally face the issue of result cancellation in NECO SSCE, or withheld results.

WAEC GCE; meaning, specifications, and other useful information

The WASSCE for Private Candidates, also known as the General Certificate Examination, GCE, is usually written in November/December. This is mostly taken by secondary school leavers who want to correct deficiencies in their WAEC results.

WAEC established this examinatoin for candidates who have any problems with their West African senior school certificate examination.

The main reason for establishing this examination board is to serve as a second trial for those who had any problems with their main result.

There have been many complaints made by some candidates who engaged in this general certificate examination. For that reason, this general certificate examination has not been rated as highly as supposed.

Due to the fact that almost all the candidates who wrote this GCE had already written the main WAEC exam and had errors in their results, the rate of cancelation of GCE examinatoin results is very high.

Many students also had the issue of held results or withheld results when they wrote their GCE

 Conclusion,

In case you don’t like reading long texts, this summary carries everything that I said above.

For people who have no intention of studying abroad in a very faraway place, it’s advisable to write the NECO SSCE as it is the examination established by the Nigeria Ministry of Education to serve as a senior school certificate examination.

The interesting thing about NECO is that you receive almost the same treatment as a person that wrote WAEC. There are not many issues with the exam, like result holding or cancellation.

For people who intend to study abroad, some of whom are very far away from West Africa, it’s advisable to write a WAEC general certificate examination (GCE), as it can replace your WAEC examination certificate in any country that recognizes WAEC.

The main problem with this one is that there’s a high rate of failure experienced by those who write this exam, as most of them are among those whose results get cancelled or any other problems due to the issue of examinatoin malpractice. Because of this, WAEC takes extra precautions when accessing this GCE result.
